The Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Tour was founded in 1973 and is the principle organizing body of Women's professional tennis.  In 2013, the WTA Tour celebrated their 40th year anniversary.

The WTA Tour is the elite professional tennis circuit organized by the Woman’s Tennis Association (WTA).  The Tour comprises approximately 30 annual events covering WTA Premier Tournaments, WTA International Tournaments and the WTA Tour Championships.
