- Cricket South Africa (CSA) is the controlling body of all activities of the game in South Africa, both amateur and professional, and for men and women.

- Initially CSA operated under the name of the United Cricket Board of South Africa before changing in 2006.

- Mark Boucher is the only wicketkeeper to have made more than 400 Test match dismissals in the history of the game.

- Outstanding players of the 'new' era include Allan Donald, Shaun Pollock and Makhaya Ntini, who have all taken more than 300 Test wickets.

For a brief moment in 2012 the South African Cricket team achieved No.1 ranking status across all three formats of international cricket. This was the first time this has been achieved and is testament to the strength and depth in quality South Africa has in world cricket. They are an outstanding team in all formats without any significant weakness in their squad. With fast bowling that is the envy of world cricket, led by the youthful Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel and a batting line up which combines dogged determination (Smith, Amla) and flair (De Villiers, Duminy), South Africa have a real opportunity to become one of the greatest teams in a generation under the leadership of their evergreen captain, Graeme Smith.

However, 2013 will be a testing year for South Africa; following their return from Australia, the Proteas will welcome a highly competitive New Zealand and the mercurial Pakistan team whose unpredictability is their best weapon
